 If I see something I haven't seen before, I'll throw a dollar at it.  | Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) is Stefan's 145-year-old older brother who is always pestering Stefan and trying to make him realize who he is, that he is not human. Returning to Mystic Falls around the same time Stefan does, he promises Stefan an eternity of hell. Damon blames Stefan for Katherine's death, although later they find out that all the 27 vampires who were thought to be burned in the church were actually sealed in a tomb beneath the church by a witch. Damon spends his days feeding on humans then erasing their memory and feeling no remorse in doing so. He walks around with a humorous attitude towards life and is always the one to find the joke in every serious situation. He acts as though he hates his brother, but as time goes on he slowly reveals his love for his brother, although most of the time it is quite subtle.
Damon and Elena have a very interesting relationship in that Elena understands the pain Damon feels at the loss and betrayal of his love Katherine. They bond in some ways because of this, but as Elena says, that is not enough to make her forget all the horrible things he has done. Damon seems to have a unique attraction to Elena and goes around her mostly to annoy Stefan. He acts as though he lives for the sole reason to be a frustration to his brother. Ian Somerhalder has appeared in many other movies and TV shows.
