 "Listen up! Quit ditching class or you're grounded, no discussion ." | Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning) is the sister of Elena and Jeremy's mother, making her their aunt. When her sister dies, she becomes the sole guardian of Elena and Jeremy and goes through many obstacles while trying to be a good parent, especially with Jeremy. With him getting in trouble all the time, skipping school, and not doing his homework, Jenna has her hands full. She just can't seem to get through to him. While dealing with Jeremy, she also experiences conflicts with her ex-boyfriend Logan. He's the news reporter for the town so she is constantly seeing him on television. When Logan and the Founder's Council sense that vampires have returned to Mystic Falls, Logan tries to get on Jenna's good side so that he can get into her house to obtain a pocket watch. This pocket watch is unique because it detects the vampire element. When Logan himself turns into a vampire, an e-mail is sent to Jenna that he left town again. This was the last straw for Logan. He then returns to her house asking for Jenna to invite him in, which she does not. When Stefan and Damon see Logan, they know that he is a vampire because Damon thought that he killed him. So Elena tells Jenna to never speak to Logan again no matter what. Jenna also has something going on with Alaric Saltzman, but nothing seems to ever really come of it. He has so much going on around him that he is often distracted, especially since he found out that his wife isn't actually dead, Damon turned her into a vampire. Jenna seems to be the only one in the family left in the dark about the vampires in Mystic Falls. It is unclear as to whether she suspects anything or not.
